‘Apricus’ x LAWRIE wins HIA’s Sunshine Coast Custom Built Home $1.5 to $3 million

The second project to take out a HIA Custom Built Home award this year, Apricus was a once in a lifetime project. Working with clients, Mandy and Gerry on this once vacant, sloping plot, we’re proud of the home that now surveys the Peregian Beach coastline and Sunshine Coast hinterland. We’re incredibly proud of this custom build and it’s recognition at the 2024 HIA Awards.

The Design of Apricus

Designed by Reitsma and Associates, Apricus is a multi-level residential home in Peregian Beach with 5 elevations and 4 distinct levels with discreet, intermittently landscaped stairwells connecting them. Not only is this custom home visually stunning, Apricus is integrated with Control 4 technology, making it fully automated.

Finished in late 2023, its open concept kitchen and living room on the top floor take advantage of dual ocean and hinterland views. The concrete form that separates the levels creates bold, modern lines with polished concrete floors and clean-lined ceilings. The awnings and roofing comprise of traditional metal work by local Sunshine Coast Spanglers, Ion Clad.

Balconies span either side of the top level, combined with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors and screens. These spaces add a unique outdoor living element to the upper level, allowing the kitchen, dining and lounge areas to take full advantage of the open spaces and endless views.

The lower level of the main house is centred around an open, covered living space with rooms on either side that spill out to a large deck that leads to a long, lap swimming pool. From the garage, you enter the home via a staircase that hugs the side of the home, with bedrooms and private retreats branching off as you transcend from the ground floor to the top level.

The site was a challenge for our team. Between tight access and the steep nature of the original plot, the site tested us and the mettle of our coordination capabilities. In saying that, the gradient was as necessary for the outcome of the project as it was prohibitive to the build itself. And the final result was well worth the effort.
